Tuesday’s chat with Taryn

So happy to have a fellow RWACer here! Everybody say hello to Renee Pace! She’s so generous, she’s willing to give away not one, but TWO books here. Her YA titles Offleash and Off Limits to two lucky commentors! Here’s a little about Renee:
I have the great pleasure of living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which has a population of about 380,000. Halifax is almost like a mini-Boston (one of my fav cities to visit but I confess to loving San Francisco, CA the most) and sits on the Atlantic Ocean, which is what I get to look at as I write my young adult novels. I’m not a teen anymore but I keep telling those people that I literally stopped counting when I hit twenty.

I live my version of paranormal and it’s my reality. I hope you enjoy my worlds that my young adults enter and enjoy the journey of self-discovery many of them make.

and now…the interview!
1.      Who was your first author crush and why?
This is easy. The first time I read a Piers Anthony book I fell in love with writing, world building and developing characters. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on his latest book or devour his series.

2.      What was your first clue you were a writer? Was it a long journey or a short one? Have you always known?
I always knew. I know that sounds weird but I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating characters in my head, or building words or telling stories. I had a difficult child hood so writing was my escape. LOL it still is my escape from my busy life.

3.      What are some of your writer-esque quirks (do you have to be in your pjs? always facing the door? Do people look at you after something funny happens and say ‘that’s going in a book, isn’t it?’)?
Scary but I do use people I know in my books – well their characters anyway – but they don’t usually realize that. I have to have a large pot of coffee to write and CBC talk radio in the background and no children running around in my house calling for ‘mom’ every few seconds.

4.      Finish this joke: A clown, a priest and a writer all get onto an elevator…
And the writer tells the security guard listening to his rant while stuck in the elevator how he really used to work as a clown with Cirque du Soleil for fifteen years because his life as a Priest left him feeling isolated and removed from society and unless the guard can get someone to make the elevator work soon a bunch of children at the Sick Hospital will be very disappointed because their favorite clown won’t be able to make an appearance. And like a miracle, the elevator starts to descend.
